Specs & features.

The Wintrobe tube is a narrow, straight tube, typically 110 mm to 115 mm in length with a uniform internal bore diameter of 3.0 mm. It holds approximately 1 ml of blood. One end of the tube is flat/closed (bottom), while the other is open for filling.

No specifications have been listed.

  • Dual Calibration Scale: It features a highly visible scale, usually graduated from 0 to 100 mm in both ascending and descending order. One side is used for measuring ESR, and the inverted side is used for PCV.
  • Bottom-Up Filling: Blood must be introduced to the tube from the bottom up using a long-stemmed Pasteur pipette or Wintrobe pipette to prevent air bubbles.
  • ESR Measurement: Blood is allowed to settle for 1 hour, and the rate at which red blood cells fall gives a non-specific measure of inflammation.
